The Samil Apartments: Luxury Housing Overlooking the Stream
The Cheonggyecheon Museum presents its Spring 2019 special exhibition titled, The Samil Apartments: Luxury Housing Overlooking the Stream. The Samil Apartments opened in 1969, marking the 50th anniversary of the March 1st (Samil in Korean) Independence Movement in 1919. Seoul at the time was experiencing rapid growth and change. Now in 2019, another half century later, Cheonggyecheon Stream has been restored, bringing about an entirely different urban environment. This exhibition introduces the dynamic changes that took place in Seoul’s city center, focusing on the Samil Apartments and the adjacent (now demolished) Cheonggye Elevated Expressway remembered by many residents of Seoul.
