1,100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Goryeo Dynasty,
Special Exhibition in Seoul, on the South-North Korean Joint Excavation of the Manwoldae Palace at Gaeseong
The ‘1,100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Goryeo Dynasty, Special Exhibition in Seoul, on the South-North Korean Joint Excavation of the Manwoldae Palace at Gaeseong’ will shed new light on the ruins of the Manwoldae Palace and relics that have been excavated since 2007. The footage and actual relics of Manwoldae Palace will be presented in a digital exhibition using South Korea’s world-class IT technology, such as 3D printing and hologram. One of the Goryeo Dynasty imperial palaces, ‘Hoegyeongjeon,’ which was restored with 3D technology for the first time, will be displayed during this exhibition.
The main exhibitions include graphic panels showing Manwoldae, a 3D replication of Hoegyeongjeon, and a video clip of the history of inter-Korean relations.
○ Graphic panels showing the transformation of Manwoldae: Manwoldae, which was used as a royal palace for 500 years during the Goryeo Dynasty that embraced open-door policy and convergence, was destroyed by a fire and reconstructed four times. The palace which is depicted in artworks, such as Kyehoe on Site of Manwoldae by Kim Hong-do and Sijo by Hwang Jin-yi, will be presented through various digital media and graphic panels.
○ 3D restoration of the main palace of Goryeo’s royal palace, Hoegyeongjeon: Digital images of Hoegyeongjeon, which is considered the most beautiful and magnificent out of all Goryeo royal palaces and has been restored based on the data collected during excavations, will be shown for the first time. Moreover, relics excavated from the Manwoldae site, including tiles and Goryeo celadon, will be displayed as holograms for a more realistic presentation.
○ Experiential zone for replicas of old relics: The relics excavated from the Manwoldae site, which have been replicated using 3D printing technology and the replica of a ritual building of Goryeo royal palace, Gyeongnyeongjeon, are available for visitors to see in the experiential zone.
○ Video clip of the history of inter-Korean relations: The history of reciprocal relationship between the two Koreas will be presented through a video clip, which will highlight how the ‘inter-Korean joint excavation of Manwoldae Palace’ had been conducted even in the midst of military tensions.
