South Korea’s Human Rights Story
The NHRC holds a Photo Exhibition to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
o This year, the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (Chairperson: Choi Young-ae) will be holding a photo exhibition on the history of human rights at home and abroad in the Lobby Exhibition Hall of the Seoul Museum of History in cooperation with the Seoul Museum of History and Korea Democracy Foundation to celebrate 70 years (Dec. 10) since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
o This exhibition will shed a light on the background and meaning of the birth of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – the foundation of the constitutions and laws of countries around the world. It will also become a place for visitors to look back at pictures of South Korean history’s human rights violations and the process of overcoming them over the past 70 years.
o The exhibition will comprise four sessions: △ The History of Human Rights, △ The Development of Human Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human rights, △ South Korea’s Human Rights History, and △ South Korea Meets Human Rights. A total of 55 photos will be exhibited, including pictures owned by the UN and the NHRC, as well as others depicting representative scenes from after the liberation starting with the democratization movement, up to the candlelight protests and MeToo movement.
