March First Independence Movement and Cheondogyo Central Temple
Seoul Museum of History to hold an exhibition entitled “March First Independence Movement and Cheondogyo Central Temple” at its lobby
- Seoul Museum of History to open an exhibition entitled “March First Independence Movement and Cheondogyo Central Temple” following the special exhibition commemorating the centennial of the March First Independence Movement (Exhibition period: March 26 - April 21)
- Trial records on the independence movement containing stories about construction funds for Cheondogyo Central Temple, which had been used as funds for the independence movement including the March First Independence Movement, will be introduced and photos and design maps at the time of its construction will be put on display.
The exhibition examines the establishment process of Cheondogyo Central Temple, which acted as the driving force behind mobilization of funds for the independence movement including the March First Independence Movement, and vividly introduces Cheondogyo Central Temple as a space that represents the will of the people in Joseon during Japanese colonial rule through newspaper articles, photos, architectural drawings, and models from the time.
Furthermore, Gaebyeoksa (publishing company) which had been located at the main building of Cheondogyo Central Headquarters, spearheaded the beginning of Korean modern literature and its progress, and relevant copies of “Gaebyeok” that carried works of Korean modern literature were also introduced during the exhibition.
